As some of you know, my parents lease a 2014 Sequoia and it’s been super handy for moving myself, sisters around and in the winter. My driveway is sloping upwards and is just a complete disaster in the snow and ice... even the guy who plows it told me “It’s one of the worst ones I’ve had to do in over 30 years of plowing.”
Anyways the lease of the Sequoia ends in January and the buyback is $30,000... similar Sequoias in good condition and similar mileage (I just passed 33,000 last week) go for around $34-39K. I told my Dad we should just keep it. I’ve always gotten it maintained on time and kept it clean inside... and the outside, I wash it occasionally. Even though it is his car, he and I have split the driving in the past 2.5 years... most of that time I was in grad school and used it as a commuter. The only issue is that it needs new tires and new brakes. The tires are dreadfully thin and I’m pretty annoyed they are in this shape at 33,000 miles.
Anyways if we buy it, I’m thinking of these tires... Kumho AT51. Seems like it’s great in the snow and decent to drive every day as well.

I still drive my Ram most of the time, but sometimes I will drive the Sequoia when Dad isn’t taking it to work.

33k isn’t too bad for the factory tires, conditions, and what the wear rate is on those huge beasts. People can get in the high 40's with a good 600 rate tire. Suspension set up on this is medium for tire wear homes. Anything above 30k is good. Lol on IS 350 and Volvo S60, the factory puts a sticker on the windshield saying that the tires will only last around 15k. Which isn’t bad considering their handling and geometry. People still flip out though lol

I would keep it as well. I’ve been looking at sequoia’s, lx570's, land cruisers, q7's, Escalades, and X5's for my parents lately. I love the Lexus because it’s good looking and will run forever and then some. The sequoia, cruiser, and Lexus all hold value ridiculously well, which is what is making me lean to ze Germans. I love getting nice cars thanks to depreciation!

First, move somewhere with less snow.
Second, BFG K02 tires are best tires.

Yeah, 30k is about what I get out of tires on my Sierra. Such is life!

Keeping it makes sense to me. It’s cheaper than buying a random used one, and you know it’s history. Also, 30k miles is about what I get out of a set of tires on my Sierra. I’m on my fourth set now.

I haven’t heard anything bad about them, though. ever. I wanted them on the Outback before I discovered that the Outback was a grenade with the pin pulled...

I think for trucks tires should definitely last longer than 30K.... have you gotten the same tires?

Nope, different tires every time. I do a lot of around town driving and turning.

Okay so I found a set of them for $576 and I would also need an alignment... how much should an alignment cost for all 4 wheels? Thanks

Dealer alignments avg. about $99-$150 depending if they are running a promo. Same as any other place and it’s done to the same specs. On the Sequoia, it’s just a front toe adjustment if I remember correctly. No biggie. $576 is not bad at all for 4 beefy R18s. Looking at the tread, I fear possibly running into noise and economy issues further along in time. But when winter comes, they will be ultra rad! Give and take always with tires unless you spend a ton of money on high end Michelin or Pirelli

They are not bad per se. They usually last really long compared to other truck tires, which is good. But they do that by being really hard, which can be bad. I have experienced them being not great in rain/wet snow because of this, but siping really helps. I think there are better tires for the money on the market for DD/4WD, but they don’t last as long or have the reputation.
